PROJECT SUMMARY
All the activities are based on volunteering and have a double final objective.The first one is to let the volunteer have a formative process based on non formal methods,that we can synthesize in the expression”learning by doing”.The second reason is to let the volunteer interact with the local community.It has no sense let them pass the whole project inside 4 walls,isolated from the others,but on the contrary it is better to give themm as much as possible opportunities to interact with the people who live in the territory of his service. Paraphrasing what Camillo Benso count of Cavour said,one of the fathers of the Italian nation,it can be summarized in the expression:”once the European Union is created,let’s create the Europeans”
We would reach these objective by giving volunteers a very different range of activities that our project can offer thanks to the cooperation that ARCI Strauss has with many local organization which deal with different sector of social life(assistance to children and youth,school and education,youth center,ecology activities,support of people with disabilities and so on).This allow to the project to range over different fields,offering alternatives to the volunteers,and will give them as well the opportunity to know many and various persons of the local community.From a practice point of view,the volunteer will support and assist the staff at each facility, included our organization.Volunteers will never operate alone and they will never be directly in charge of a task.Usually they help the staff in the preparation of cultural,leisure and recreational activities for the users of the centers.The project foresees different activities,all of them set in the youth field and in youth policies.In particular,volunteers will alternatively and coordinately handle with the following projects.In the frame of these activities,volunteer will be involved as following:
1) ArciStrauss Park:ArciStrauss has been entrusted of the maintenance of public garden in the centre of Mussomeli.The HO & volunteers will be responsible for cleaning,maintenance,planting and ornamentation of villa Aldisio,at no charge.
2) Baby-Parking: it is structure that organize free-time activities to children aged 3-12,they organize leisure activities,birthday parties, excursions,ect.In this structure EVS volunteers will take part to the activities by supporting the staff,organizing recreational activities.
3)Kindergarten «Fantasilandia» that host children from 0 to 4 years.Here volunteer will help the staff to organize activities for the children,help them with the preparation and service of the food,carry out come leisure activities and so on;
4)«Ediset Academy» organization that operates in the field of vocational training;In particular,every summer and occasionally in other period of the year they organize summer camps for children,based especially in the knowledge of a foreign language(usually English).Volunteers will help in the organization of the whole project(accommodation,activities,welcoming of the little guest,leisure time etc.)
5) Europe desk:in this area volunteers will be monitored constantly(in addition to the supervisor as for all other activities)form the referent of PLD Eurodesk and they will have these following tasks:
– give visitors all kind if information abour European programms,policies and in general on all the opportunities offered by the EU to youth
– manage the numerous cultural exchange in which Strauss takes part as sending organization including:take care of the contacts (telephone or email)with the HOs,select the participants,help the participants in the travel organization(purchase tickets,insurance etc.)
6) Cooperation with organizations and association that cooperate with the HO
7) cooperaion with Casa Famiglia Rosetta and Casa Vanessa-a voluntary associations that promotes cultural recreational and support for people with disabilities.
All these activities will follow a common goal:give to the volunteers the opportunity to acquire or cultivate skills, competences and knowledge contributing to their personal development and to bring a”wave of Europe” in our area,that will guide the community to win prejudices and to open their own mind to the other cultures.The venue of all activity will be the local community of Mussomeli and the surrounding area.The municipality of Mussomeli is situated in the so called Alta Valle del Platani or Vallone, in the heart of the Sicilian hinterland.It counts a population of about 12.000 inhabitants with local economy based on agriculture and the breeding.We plan the dates on September, for nine months.
The working methods used will be always non formal education.We will focus on the different geographic origin of volunteers involved to develop solidarity and promote active citizenship and mutual understanding among the volunteers themselves and also in the local community.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
Bona Fides Asociation as well as ArciStrauss do not have any candidates age requirements, we are going to obey the programme rules and will choose volunteers in age between 17 and 30 years old. We are open for all of candidatures, doesn’t matter age, but attidtude of candidates. We want to have strongly motivated young people, who will be focused on the project’s objective, that do not turn up that it was only a momentary Italy trip whim. We are going to not descriminate the volunteers by their sex, we will be objective in our choice and will try to chose the same number of male and female, if the moitivation of them will be equal.

For the process of the selection for us important is:
1. Motivation of participation (especially in this project, cause it’s pretty hard),
2. The volunteer will not be discriminated by his/her own gender, religion, political or sexual orientation,
3. It is very important for us that the volunteer will be ready for his/her volunteering service (generally awarness),
4. The volunteer will be independent and flexible,
5. The most important thing is his/her creativity to run his/her own project in Mussomelli,
6. The volunteer will be open-minded and also a person with big responsibility.
