Project details:
One of the most important tasks of the hosting organisation is to inform and to educate young people about their opportunities to participate in different programmes and activities, as well to help them to realize themselves as part of Europe. We believe that the best way how to show this is with a real example – a story from the persons, who have experienced some of the opportunities and who can share their experiences and cultural backgrounds are better understandable than just a theory. For this reason we are planning to offer EVS volunteers to share their experience and point of view with other young people in Georgia.
The field of civil society
Volunteers will be also involved in raising awareness of active citizenship and civil society among young people. Volunteers will participate in creating and developing The Youth Parliament of Ozurgeti which will be an educational project designed especially for young people of Ozurgeti (Guria region). The Youth Parliament of Ozurgeti will function as a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas between young people. The Youth Parliament will provide a good opportunity for young people to share their opinions and to improve their capabilities to articulate and represent their interest.
The main aims of The Youth Parliament will be to: raise awareness of local issues among young people, promote and build civil society, promote democratic values and contribute to the personal skills development. The Youth Parliament will also encourage young people to implement their initiatives and will help them learning of social and professional skills. Young people will also learn about the workings of democracy. Volunteers will help in the creation of The Youth Parliament of Ozurgeti. Using their experience and knowledge, volunteers will help in organization of election to the new parliament, will provide necessary information for members of the parliament and will take care of functioning of the parliament at all. The Youth Parliament of Ozurgeti should become an advisory body to local authorities on young people’s issues.
The volunteers will also have a chance have experience in non-governmental field, using non-formal education’s methods, participating in organisation’s everyday work and arranged activities and developing their own ideas.
Human Rights activities:
In the field of education and European values, an important role will be given to the study of human rights. Volunteers will organize regular meetings with young people and will teach them about human rights and their importance in modern world. According to that human rights will be a main issue of interest during such a meetings. Every meeting will concern human rights and issues connected with them. Meetings will have an open structure. It will be also a place for discussion and exchange of opinions. Volunteers will prepare meetings, presentations and lectures about human rights and topics for discussion. They will be hosts of meetings and moderators of discussions. This kind of meetings will bring young people of Ozurgeti closer to human rights issue and will help them discover common values while respecting the diversity of cultures.
Activities in EuroClubs:
One possibility for the volunteers is to participate in work with the “EuroClub” that is the meeting place for Georgian Public schools‘ students, interested in themes concerning European Union. Volunteers will help to educate and involve them by informing about different programmes and possibilities to realize their projects, as well as discussing about different cultures and European values and preparing presentations and trainings about topics concerning Europe. Here are included: developing, reinforcing the “EuroClubs” members (school pupils) with new information, knowledge and practical tools; promotion of ”EuroClub” in local communities; working on a webpage of the organisation (creating blogs); communicating with local press: reporting, disseminating the information about ”EuroClub” activities: school championship for intellectual games, artistic performances, sport games; ecological events: cleaning of squares, streets and river banks, charitable events for orphan children: concerts, auctions for handicrafts of “EuroClub” members.
