OPIS PROJEKTU:

The whole project is based on non-formal education principiles and the volunteer is going to organize activities with the aim of the promotion of the European values and intercultural understanding. The HO will take care that the volunteer will work and live in a safe surrounding and it will support the volunteer in her/his learning process during the whole EVS project. The volunteer will be actively involved in implementation of the project. S/he will have an opporunity to develop own intercultural, communicational and leadership skills, through helping the others. The volunteer will have a chance to develop new skills and gain experience in activity planning. Both the volunteer and youngsters involved in the project will be able to learn individually and in the group developing and implementing own ideas.
All staff coordinators inTernopil will be able to provide the needed assistance and support to the volunteer. Main responsibilities will never be given to the volunteer alone. The volunteer will be involved in decision-making processes, especially if it concerns areas that she/ he is involved in directly. Volunteers are also welcome to contribute with his/her ideas to the HO in general. In general the volunteer will be assisting in the work of the school. S/he will assist the language lessons and the after-school activities for the pupils. In addition the volunteer will have an opportunity to initiate and organise additional activites, like meetings, concerts, language club, etc. The framework of the events will depend on the interests of both the volunteer and the pupils. Volunteer will also learn about possibilities for youth work and international voluntary work opportunities in Ukraine and compare this with the situation in his/her own country. The intetntion is that the EVS-volunteer can use the experience in his/her own organization as well as in future common youth activities between Ukraine and Poland.
The volunteer will start the service with the on-arrival training, that will be delivered either by the hosting organisation or the SALTO EECA trainers in the Ukraine. After the volunteer will go to the project s/he will have a week to understand the schedule of the project, get to know the mentor and the tutor, see the city. During the first months the volunteer will be assisting the teachers during the lessons, help the pupils and work on own language skills Volunteer will live either in the hosting family or rented flat. S/he will cook for him/herself. The volunteer will receive money for food and local transport allowance. Volunteer will manage money on his own, and from these finances, he will also buy his/her food. He will perpare food her-/himself. He/she will be able to use the kitchen there. The EVS-volunteer will be living in an appropriately equpped flat. In the fact, there are sanitary facilities and a kitchen. Accommodation will be found by the HO and discussed with the volunteer and the SO. The volunteer will be working 6-7 hours per day, 5 days a week (depending on the school schedule it can be mornings, evenings or day time). S/he will be free during the national holidays and will have 2 free days a week. In case the volunteer will need to work over the weekend s/he will be free on another day. The local infrastructure creates many possibilities for self-initative activities. If the volunteer is willing to develop his/her own ideas, he/ she can count on the support no only from the organization’s members, but also representatives of other cultural, humanitarian or environmental institutions.
Volunteer work description:
Assisting during the English language classes- 20%
Assisting elementary school pupils in doing their homework – 10%
Ukrainian/Russian language course for the volunteer – 15%
Organizing presentations and lessons about European countries, different intercultural parties/ concerts/events together with the pupils – 20%
Participation in Euro club-20%
Teaching native language for those interested- 10%
Assisting in the office work 5%
Apart from learning to live and work in a new environment, the volunteer will gain knowledge on how to work with children and youth, how to organise and implement events and activities, ability to teach. The volunteer will get an opportunity to work with different generations and people with various backgrounds. S/he will need to learn dealing with different approaches and different ways of learning/working, being flexible and open-minded. Those learning elements for the volunteer will be achieved through direct involvement in project planning, implementationand evaluation (practical experience), but also through participation in trainnings in specific fields needed for the projects and activities run by the volunteer. We expect that the volunteer will be able to apply konwledge and skills gained through this project to his future private and professional life.
