They will also have the chance to participate to cultural workshops (traditional dances, music, etc) and to come in close contact with the local community, something that will reinforce their inter-cultural learning.
They will also have the opportunity to participate at the organisation and implementation of the annual Street Festival, as well as in other social participation activities, such as awareness campaigns, youth information about Europe; activities compating poverty such as the free giving bazzar; and environmental activities such as beach cleaning, developing documentaties for the issues of the region of Messinia. VOLUNTEER’S PROFILE
The volunteers in this project will be between 17 and 30 years old
For this project, we are looking for motivated young people, interested in cultural and leisure time activities with children, teenagers and young adults, who believe that they can offer to the project and gain from it. Ideally, the participants will have some experience in participating and or organising cultural and social activities, as well as the motivation to advance their skills, through non-formal and informal education. We are also looking for young people with communication skills, social skills, enthousiastic, creative, with a sense of initiative.
However, the most important factor for the selection of the volunteers is their motivation and will to participate in this experience. We believe in giving the chance to young people with fewer opportunities, or young people that have not had the experience of living abroad.
We receive applications from young people that want to volunteer all year long. To ensure that the project meets the background and needs of the volunteers, we ask them to fill in a questionnaire about themselves as well as the activities and kinds of projects they are interested in. We are also informing them about any existing EVS placements via e-mail, through our website, or even personally, attaching additional information on the activities and other organisational issues. For the final stage, we ask the potential volunteers to write a letter to explain in as many details as possible their interests, motivation, needs and how they can be combined with this specific EVS project. We send the letters to the hosting organisation who then makes the pre-selection of the volunteers. After the pre-selection, the hosting organisation contacts the volunteers through e-mail or skype to inform them about the activities, the special characteristics of Kalamata and Greece, answer the questions of the volunteers.
