PROJECT DESCRIPTION
On local level Center for Intercultural Dialogue operates within the multicultural municipality of Kumanovo and rural municipalities Lipkovo and Staro Nagoricane (neigboughouring to Kumanovo). The EVS project will be hosted in Kumanovo, multi-ethnic city where Macedonian, Albanian, Roma and Serbian ethnic communities live. So far CID with its youth centers Multi Kulti was the only neutral place that works to bring the gabs between the ethnicities. The CID operates in an enviroment in which the young people face lack of structural and policy support, lack of information for youth opportiunities and segregation, working towards bringing possitive change in Kumanovo.
Bona Fides Association together with CID oin frame of this EVS project want to cooperate in the following areas:
1. Youth work opportiunities for young people through the youth centres Multi Kulti, mainly working on enchancing inter-ethnic dialogue among communities. The youth centers work with young people in the age 13-25 years old.
2. Youth Information services: CID runs an internet radio Multi Kulti, which is the only youth and multilingual radio in Macedonia.
3. Development of youth policy: Establishment and capacity building on local youth council
4. Active Citizenship: build the capacity and supports the work of the municipality detached commision for inter-ethnic relations, advisory body of the city council.
5. Support the democratic participation and integrated intercultural education in all the primary and secondary schools in Kumanovo area.
6. Organises youth work opportiunities for young people from the rural municipalities in the area of Kumanovo, by organising workshops in schools and volunteering hours.
The Project is aiming to explore and exchange best practices in the field of youth work development in the region of Kumanovo. The volunteers will learn how to contribute to creating links between youth policy, youth research and young people by providing educational workshops and information services for youth from disadvantaged areas (rural areas and suburbs). During their work the volunteers will have a chance for experiential learning (learning by doing) which will be facilitated by mentors of the hosting organization.
Through this things we want to support the development of spirit of European Citizenship on local level
• To develop tools and practices for delivering local youth work in multicultural groups
• To support spirit of initiative of young people from the local communities involved
• To increase sustainability of local youth work programs focused on intercultural dialogue
• To increase volunteers’ sprit of initiative and ability to work toward a more inclusive society.
Youth policies will be dealt with in the following manner:
– the volunteers will have an opportunity to explore the youth policies on local, national and international level while working on the youth information component of the project. The volunteers will be asked to provide information to local youth about programmes and policies that aim to improve their quality of life and to present these programmes in such a manner that the youth with fewer opportunities will understand their meaning.
– in order to have successful activities the volunteers will work with local youth workers on how to provide the youth information and how to make needs assessment for the young people living in the underdeveloped areas around Kumanovo
– finally the volunteers and the supervisor will work on drafting proposals for improvements in the youth policies in the Municipality of Kumanovo, that can take into considerations the needs of the youth with fewer opportunitiesand will offer more space for them to get quality of youth work and leisure activities and educational opportunities.
– lastly the volunteers will be informed about the European Portfolio of youth workers that can support their learning during the EVS and the planning of their activities and competence development
Art and Culture
Using art and culture in different youth work activities the volunteers will become multipliers and will share best practices among their sending and hosting organizations:
The project will have the following objectives in the hosting communities:
• To engage local youth in a diverse range of activities, such as the provision of education and youth work services that will support the local dialogue of different youth groups in Kumanovo, as well as offer space for intercultural learning and European awareness
• To provide space for sharing opinion and discussion through using artistic methods and practices (photos, theatre, wall-painting etc.)
• To improve the local intercultural dialogue – especially between the Macedonian and Albanian youth which rarely have time to meet and communicate.
Recruitment Process:
The volunteers in this project will be between 17 and 30 years old. The volunteers that participate in this project will be living and working together with other EVS volunteers that do their service in Kumanovo, as well as with local volunteers, both male and female. We are open for all of candidatures, doesn’t matter age, but attidtude of candidates. We want to have strongly motivated young people, who will be focused on the project’s objective, that do not turn up that it was only a momentary Macedonia trip whim. We are going to not descriminate the volunteers by their sex, we will be objective in our choice and will try to chose the same number of male and female, if the moitivation of them will be equal.
For the process of the selection for us important is:
1. Motivation of participation (especially in this project, cause it’s pretty hard),
2. The volunteer will not be discriminated by his/her own gender, religion, political or sexual orientation,
3. It is very important for us that the volunteer will be ready for his/her volunteering service (generally awarness),
4. The volunteer will be independent and flexible,
5. The most important thing is his/her creativity to run his/her own project in Kumanovo,
6. The volunteer will be open-minded and also a person with big responsibility.
The hosting activities are open for all profiles of volunteers. The volunteers will be identified as they are eager and motivated to do their EVS in Macedonia. CID following this process supported the identification of the sending organizations and creation of a functional EVS partnership. The open calls will be advertise on official website of Bona Fides Association as well as on the website where willing volunteers are able to find this information (like ngo.pl, Voluntary Centers websites, facebook etc)
The long term EVS volunteers in Kumanovo will be mainly young people, recent graduates or young people with some experience in the citizens’ organisations. In the selection process this was not a condition just a supplement that can add value to the project. The main characteristics that the CID was looking for in the volunteers was to be open-minded to learn and improve. The selection will be make on base of interviews to sum up the willingness of the potential volunteers to learn and improve. These interviews were made in cooperation with the sending organizations.
Self-directed learners would benefit a lot from the project, but also people that want to improve their learning were encouraged to apply. Both the hosting and the sending organizations have offered this possibility to all interested volunteers that fulfil the ErasmusPlus Programme criteria (age, legal residence) regardless of the age, religion, cultural, sexual and other background. Selection will be done on the base of a motivation letter, CV and application form where they will write about thier EVS expectations, including also a link with the previous experience of the volunteers and follow-up plans from the EVS experience.
The local activities will aim to target a group of young people with fewer opportunities in order to support their learning and develop competencies that will improve their position in the society. All involved EVS volunteers will work togther and learn from the local staff which is well-trained about youth work, education and leisure activities for youth. Also of the EVS volunteers expressed willingness to put in practice their learning with a more challenging youth group in the hosting community, so they will have an experience of working together with qualified youth workers in Kumanovo. In this way the volunteer will not be substituting paid staff but will learn from paid staff. The focus of the project will be placed on learning through service which is also the volunteers motivation for the EVS.
After the pre-selection, the hosting organisation contacts the volunteers through e-mail or skype to inform them about the activities, the special characteristics of Kumanovo, answer the questions of the volunteers, listen to their ideas and proposals. After this, the final selection is made and the results are announced to the interested parties.
