OPIS PROJEKTU:

CZAS PROJEKTU: 1/03/2014 – 28/02/2015

PROJECT ENVIRONMENT

Yerevan (the capital of Armenia), where the volunteers will live, is located in Eastern Armenia to the centre-west of the country in the north-eastern extremity of the Ararat Valley. The upper part of the city is surrounded with mountains on three sides while it descends to the banks of the river Hrazdan at the south.

PROPOSED ACTIVITIES FOR EVS VOLUNTEERS
During the first phase of the project, volunteers will have time to get to know the local community, host organisation, its members and local volunteers. Then they will receive an extensive training in the hosting organization which is one of the expert organizations in the sphere of Intercultural Communication and Learning in Armenia. They will get acquainted with different ICL theories, training modules, best practices, and research works.

During the service in ICIRLD, the volunteers will enrich their sense of intercultural awareness; will learn to prepare, implement, and evaluate youth projects (mainly themed to intercultural communication); will learn to do explorations.

The volunteers will also get language courses either Armenian or Russian.

The first volunteer, with support of the hosting organization will develop, run and evaluate training modules on the topics of „Intercultural Learning”, „Culture of Peace”, „Concept of Culture” , „European Youth Programs” and „Creativity and Arts as Tools for ICL” in different regions of Armenia. Some educational and promotional materials will be also prepared, published and used on the aforementioned topics.

Preparation stage for 4 months:
– taking part in training courses on project management, intercultural learning, and training of trainers organised by the members of ICIRLD. (20%)
– research work on youth policy in Armenian regions and on young people with culturally different ethnic backgrounds. (20%)
– taking part in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of activities of similar nature to the volunteer’s main future activities. (30%)
– preparation and development of his/her training modules. (30%)

The whole preparation stage will be properly realized with ongoing linguistic and methodological support of ICIRLD members and trainers.

For short term group EVS, the volunteers will assist to organise educational summer camps in different regions of Armenia. This EVS project is planned to be held once/twice a year in summer. Educational summer camps are ongoing summer activities of ICIRLD. We have been organising these summer camps since 2006. The camps are held in various mountainous regions where historical monuments and monasteries also exist. Each camp lasts for 4-6 days depending on the distance of the region, and the participants are accommodated in tents. The main aim if these camps is to organise active leisure time of Armenian young people with recreational activities and equip them with basic knowledge on Intercultural Learning and Culture of Peace. The EVS volunteers will add intercultural dimension to these activities and will bring refreshment and new ideas with them while making the summer camps more interesting and multicultural.

The activities will last for 2 months. The first 2 weeks will be the integration and education period: the volunteers will have time for integrating into the local community; getting to know ICIRLD’s staff, its mission and activities; and will be intensively trained on Intercultural Learning and Project Management. The volunteers will receive basic knowledge on the above mentioned topics in order to successfully implement their tasks during summer camps. The EVS volunteers will assist the team for organising Educational Summer Camps which will consist of 2-3 ICIRLD staff members.

The volunteers will work 6-7 hours a day, 5 days a week, and will have 2 days free a month. They can take their free days whenever they want having deliberately agreed with the organisation. They will work from 10:00 to 19:00 (including lunch break of 2 hours) in the office (Meeting with the coordinator, mentor, and language teacher is also included in the working ours). As for working in regions, the time schedule will be designed with the volunteer according the activity and region.

VOLUNTEER PROFILES AND RECRUITMENT PROCESS
ICIRLD will disseminate the project call through its international partner networks and www.youthnetworks.eu site to make the project placement more accessible. There are no requirements of special competences. However we take into consideration the following criteria while recruiting a volunteer to be hosted in the organisation:
– high motivation towards the project themes and tasks;
– interested in intercultural learning and culture of peace;
– interested in making comparative intercultural research;
– open minded, flexibility to understand other cultural behaviours;
– interested in working with young people and in implementing youth projects;
– fewer opportunities (rural areas, educational difficulties, economic obstacles)

It would be an advantage if the sending organisation is also working with Intercultural Learning activities.

SPECIAL NEEDS
Volunteers with educational difficulties, and geographical and economic obstacles are welcome to be hosted. ICIRLD has competent staff who have a long experience in working with and for young people from various backgrounds. Several members of our organisation (who are directly linked with the arrangement of EVS hosting in ICIRLD) have been trainers, project managers, and youth workers in Yerevan (the capital) and different Armenian regions for many years. During their activities they have obtained proper competences in working with young people who have educational difficulties, and geographical and economic obstacles.
